Muscat: The El Niño is likely to affect several governorates across the Sultanate and it is possible that related conditions will arise particularly during February, March, and April of next year.

As temperatures begin to rise and the season transitions from winter to summer, the environment will become highly conducive to the formation of these massive thunderstorm cells.

According to Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khadouri, Director General of Meteorology at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) told @ShababRadioOman, "This does not, however, imply that November and December will be dry; we anticipate the arrival of further weather disturbances, especially from mid-November onward. The current weather system will gradually taper off by Sunday, followed by a relatively calm period lasting about a week to ten days. Thereafter, based on current forecasts there will be a new weather system taking effect November or from mid-November through December."

He added from today until Saturday, conditions will be favorable for rainfall of varying intensity across the Al Hajar Mountains, including the central Al Hajar range, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, and North Al Batinah governorates.

The Musandam Governorate will also fall within the affected area today, besides North al Sharqiyah, South al Batinah, and Muscat Governorate.

For Wednesday, there are chances of rains around the coastal areas of the Muscat Governorate.

During the next three to four days, there are chances for rainfall in the coastal parts of the Muscat Governorate, as well as the South Al Batinah and North Al Batinah governorates.

"Over the past few months, we have witnessed climate extremes, which is referred to experiencing either exceptionally intense rainfall or extremely dry weather."

According to World Meteorological Organization, "For the 2026–27 season, in the Northern Hemisphere, a large increase in probabilities for above-normal temperatures covers Africa, southern Europe, the Arabian Peninsula, the Indian Subcontinent, Eastern Asia, western coastal parts of North America south of 60°N, northeastern regions of North America,Central America, the Caribbean, and the Arctic Circle north of 60°N. Model consistency across these regions is moderate to strong."
